Legendary Columbus drag queen Virginia West is leading the charge for a new drag bar scheduled to open in Columbus later this month.

The venue will be called District West and will be located behind Slammers on Long Street in downtown Columbus. It will feature regular entertainment from a wide variety of drag performers, including drag queens, drag kings, AFAB (assigned female at birth) queens and beyond. Virginia West will serve as the Executive Entertainment Director for District West.

At a live outdoor performance last month, West alluded to contractual restrictions prohibiting her from working at other Central Ohio bars as a primary reason for departing AXIS, where she has regularly performed for over a decade. West was unable to be reached for comment.

“I want to provide our community a place to come back together again, not be separated by the Short North and the south end,” West told the crowd at a performance in August.

West shared last month that District West was targeting an opening date of September 20. A recently announced drag revue featuring Krystal Something Something, Virginia West and about a dozen other performers will presumably take place at the new District West. Tickets go on sale September 10 for the revue, dubbed “Double Take,” which runs September 25th/26th/27th and October 2nd/3rd/4th.

District West will be located at 145 North 5th Street.

[Update: A previous version of this article erroneously credited Virginia West as the owner of District West]
