What are you drinking while cooking out on Memorial Day?
Bobby:
White Rascal or Wyder’s Pear Cider (don’t knock it, it’s amazing when you’re outside!)
Brandie:
Honestly, for cookouts, my go-to is PBR. I know I get my beer snob card revoked for saying that – but it’s light enough that I can drink it all day without feeling full or getting WAYY too drunk. Plus, it’s cheap enough that I can provide mass quantities to friends without asking everyone to BYOB.
Cheryl:
I’m supplying Rogue’s Juniper Pale Ale (5.3%ABV) and Columbus Brewing Company’s Summerteeth (5%) – both light and refreshing with a low enough alcohol content that several of ’em shouldn’t put you in a position to burn down your house via that grill.
George:
Goose Island 312 – Perfect hot day in Columbus, with a refreshing wheat ale. Summer Beer of choice for years.
Ryan:
Well, I’m on antibiotics at the moment, so probably a dry Memorial Day (or nearly so) for me. However, I’d recommend folks give Ithaca Beer Company’s Flower Power a try. Tropical nose (pineapple, grapefruit, honey, melon), lots of hop character, bright and refreshing… however at 7.5% ABV, perhaps you should wait until after the grilling is done to drink it.
Sean:
Red Stripe is my go to summer beer. It’s cool and refreshing lager styling is perfect for fighting the heat. The low ABV makes it great as a session beer and something about stubby bottles in the summertime is just awesome. I may have to change up this summer though, now that I have found North Peak Brewing’s Vicious American Wheat IPA. This beer has the spicy hoppy flavor of the IPA but the refreshing mouth feel of a lager. With a 6.7% ABV though I may have to try the Wanderer, the 4.2% IPA available this month.

Yum. Ithaca’s Flower Power is one of my favorites all the time, not just for cookouts!
Quality over quantity in my book! Or both.
