Barley’s HopIPAlooza Taps June 16

There are few things I enjoy more than having my taste buds attacked with the hoppy rage of an IPA. So it’s a pretty safe bet that on June 16, my ass will be parked on a barstool at Barley’s Smokehouse – at least, until it falls off.

It’s the start of HopIPAlooza! No passes or tasting tickets at this beer party. Order what you want at the bar and enjoy a pint of fresh hoppy goodness with other IPA lovers. Not all IPAs will be tapped at once. When a keg blows, that makes room for the next one. HopIPALooza is over when the last keg is kaput! Here’s the lineup:

Maharajah American, Imperial IPA, Avery Brewing Company, Colorado
Dark Horse Double Crooked Tree IPA, American Imperial IPA, Dark Horse Brewing Company, Michigan
Columbus IPA, American IPA, Columbus Brewing Company
Bell’s Hopslam Ale, American Imperial IPA, Bell’s Brewery, Inc, Michigan
Barley’s Hoptopus, American Pale Wheat IPA, Barley’s Smokehouse & Brewpub
Barley’s Left Coast Indie Pale Ale, American IPA, Barley’s Smokehouse & Brewpub
Columbus Bodhi DIPA, American Imperial IPA, Columbus Brewing Company
Founders Double Trouble, American Imperial IPA, Founders Brewing Company, Michigan
471 IPA, American Imperial IPA, Breckenridge Brewing Company, Colorado
He’Brew Bittersweet Lenny’s R.I.P.A., Rye IPA, Schmaltz Brewing Company, California
Green Flash West Coast IPA, American IPA, Green Flash Brewing Company, California
2XIPA, American Imperial IPA, Southern Tier Brewing Company, New York
Lake Erie Monster, American Imperial IPA, Great Lakes Brewing Company, Cleveland

This hoptastic beer selection includes some of my absolute favorites (Lake Erie Monster, 2XIPA, Hopslam…) and a few even I have yet to try. In addition to the above rotation, Barley’s will have some of their own microbrews on hand for the less-hop inclined to enjoy.

I think I’ve had all of the IPAs on the list before… for people planning on going, the Maharajah, Hopslam, Hoptopus, Double Trouble, Bohdi and Lake Erie Monster are seasonal or a bit more limited in their releases, while some of the others can be found year round.

A note for those who might not have tried Bell’s Hopslam before: this beer is usually first available in January. The taste tends to change over time if it sits in storage. If you like it now, make sure to check it out next winter when it’s at its freshest!
