Those of you who enjoy a good book as much as a good drink may be interested in checking out the inaugural meetup of the Bibliophiles and Beverages Society tonight, August 17 from 7-9:30 pm at Camelot Cellars in the Short North.
Bibliophiles and Beverages, you ask? Taken from founder Megan Sever’s group credo:
…what if we created a book club that wasn’t based on one particular book? That gave you exposure to all sorts of different reads from people you know and trust? That celebrated the books we have on our shelves, not the ones we can download? That was focused on hanging out with fellow book lovers, instead of the stress of required reading? Where you could walk away with a different book than the one you brought?
And so was born, The Bibliophiles & Beverages Society.
Each month, we’ll get together at a local watering hole – be it Woodland’s, Columbus Commons or someone’s backyard – and do a good, ol’ fashioned book swap. Each person would be required to bring at least one book that they would be willing to give away – for every book you bring, that’s how many you can take home. For those who don’t bring any, you just get to drool over the pages that others are enjoying.
We’re all so busy, and so many of us/you are in book clubs already. This is different – there are no time commitments, no stress – just a lovely time with people who are just as bookwormy as you. Oh, and beer.
Long the live the printed page
Stop by Camelot tonight with a copy of that book you’re never going to re-read and exchange it for new literature, locally-crafted wine and good conversation. You can keep up with future Bibliophile events by joining their Facebook group.
