Drunk Brunch: 101 Beer Kitchen Redux

appetizers brunch 101 beer kitchenLook, I know I just wrote a drunk brunch review of 101 Beer Kitchen back in December, but I spoke too soon because now they “officially” offer brunch, so, shucks, for the sake of the Internet I had to go back and eat and drink more.

My job is hard.

While 101 Beer Kitchen has one of the more interesting rotating beer lists in Columbus, they also rolled out a few new brunch cocktails with this new menu, including a Cider-mosa, Adult Hot Chocolate and Bloody Maria (House Tomatillo Mix, Reposado Tequila & Smoked Salt Rim.) I tried a sip of the cidermosa, which tasted pretty much like a regular mimosa, with a hint of apple and a dryer finish, but I stuck with beer for this brunch – Columbus Brewing’s Creeper, a personal favorite.

Appetizers aren’t often part of the weekend day-drinking-and-eating ritual, but with options like a Scotch Egg coated in cornflake breading and maple royal icing, and a juicy bacon cheddar brat Pigs in a Blanket, they are now part of my 101 Beer Kitchen brunch ritual, and I’m strongly considering the possibility of just getting a few orders of both and calling that a meal sometime in the future.

No, not that shitty nuclear war-surviving Twinkie, a 101 Twinkie: a thick piece of challah french toast stuffed with vanilla cream and served with fresh strawberries and blueberries and a side of amazing bacon. I’m not usually inclined to order from the sweet side of a breakfast menu, but I am inclined to eat this again. And again.

Feeling savory? The seven other brunch entrees cover the spectrum, including a southern-style “steak & eggs” braised short rib platter, corned beef pot pie, fried chicken & biscuits, blackened shrimp & corn cakes, and a pastrami-style salmon smoked bagel.

Brunch at 101 Beer Kitchen is served Saturdays from 11am-3pm and Sundays from 10am-3pm. 101 Beer Kitchen is located at 7509 Sawmill Road.
