Stone Brewing Company is not coming to Columbus – but a special beer from the brewery is.
To thank Columbus residents for their enthusiastic efforts to recruit the brewery’s east coast operation — which instead landed in Richmond, Virginia — Stone brewed a special beer called Gratitude IPA which will be released only in Central Ohio.
“When asked if we could brew a special beer for the amazing beer lovers in Columbus, Ohio, we immediately said, ‘Yes!'” said a statement from the brewery. “We decided to make something unique and thoroughly ‘Stone.’ Thus, the creation of this incredible imperial wheat IPA, dry-hopped with Columbus hops (appropriately!).”
Stone described the 8.2% ABV Imperial Wheat IPA as having complex fruity and resiny hop flavor, followed by some light malty notes with very citrusy and piney hops and a smoothness from the wheat malt.
“This was the first chance for us to really showcase Columbus in a dry hop, and its flavors are readily apparent in this beer, with lots of citrusy and piney goodness,” continued the statement. “It and three other hops used in the brewing process make up what’s affectionately known as the “Four C’s” of American craft beer. We sincerely hope that Columbus residents enjoy this beer as a token of our thanks and gratitude for showing so much enthusiasm for Stone.”
The beer is currently on a truck headed to Ohio and may arrive as early as tomorrow. Gratitude IA will be available on draft only, and Cavalier Distributing released this list of Central Ohio bars that will be getting the beer, most of which were participants in “Tap a Stone Day” back in August.
