Over the course of spring, breweries, bars and restaurants have been prepping for Columbus Craft Beer Week from collaborating on sci-fi inspired beers like Ghidorah Peach Saison, Maibock to the Future III and Oak Shyhopper to building contenders for the tallest tap handle. Starting May 1, these efforts will be revealed to local beer lovers.
The Six One Pour craft beer festival is one of the biggest events of the week and will bring celebrations to a close on May 9. A number of smaller beer events will be going on across the city each day in celebration of Columbus Craft Beer Week, and while there are plenty of tap takeovers and beer dinners taking place, here are some of the other events that caught our attention:
On May 1, St. James Tavern will be hosting the Beer. Art. Charity. event from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. benefitting the local charity Ruling Our Experiences (ROX). The event will feature a Lagunitas tap takeover and an art-exhibit from Rivet and Drink & Draw Ohio.
Columbus Craft Beer week is giving back to the community through many of its events. Pigskin Brewing Company is hosting a Cornhole tournament on Sunday, May 3. A portion of the cash will go to the winning team and the rest to charity.
Also on Sunday, Studio 35 in Clintonville is hosting a movie and beer event. The tasting will feature 10 “unique” beers in addition to the Columbus Craft Beer Week collaboration beers. Following the tasting, beer drinkers can sip while watching the newest Avengers film, Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Lineage Brewing is staying true to the Columbus spirit in a different fashion with the Monday Night Brewery Ride on May 4. Lineage worked in collaboration with Yay! Bikes, a local non-profit that promotes bicycling through education and community events.
On Tuesday, May 5, 16-Bit Bar + Arcade is hosting a multi-game competition with Revolution Brewing. Registration for the tournament opens that day at 7 p.m., an hour before game play.
True to form, every good craft beer week needs a little education as well. Homestead Beer Co. is hosting a Beer Making 101 event at the Ohio Taproom on Thursday, May 7. Attendees will, of course, sample beer while covering the beer making process from designing recipes to style guidelines.
