The North Market is gathering 20 Ohio wineries for the 15th annual North Market Ohio Wine Festival this weekend.
Participating Wineries include Brandeberry Winery, Chateau Tebeau Winery, Debonne Vineyards, Doughty Glen Winery, Eldchrist Winery, Ferrante Winery, Hanover Winery, Henke Winery, Maize Valley Winery, Meranda-Nixon Winery, Plum Run Winery, Raven’s Glenn Winery, Soine Vineyards, Troutman Vineyards & Winery, Valley Vineyards, The Winery at Versailles, The Winery at Wolf Creek, Wyandotte Winery and Rockside Winery & Vineyards.
The festival will take place Friday, July 8, from 7-11pm; Saturday, July 9 from noon-9pm; and Sunday, July 10 from noon-5pm at the North Market, located at 59 Spruce St. Admission is $30 at the gate an includes a souvenir wine glass, 10 tasting tickets and a $5 voucher to spend at a North Market Merchant during the event, and additional tasting tickets are available for .50 cents each. There is no charge for designated drivers.

Wine kills human pathogens and has no history of food safety issues, and since licensing passed in a 2009 budget bill (by surprise) we have been subject to food processing licensing and regulation by the Ohio Department of Agriculture. This is duplicate of licensing and regulation as provided in Ohio liquor codes. Many other states exempt from this sort of duplicate licensing and regulation. Ohio’s regulation is superfluous, unnecessary, duplicate and also discriminates against Ohio wineries by wineries from out of state that are not subject to the same food processing licensing and regulatory costs that sell wholesale in Ohio.
