Middle West Spirits is launching the latest addition to its lineup of spirits, a gin under the brand name Vim & Petal. This is Middle West’s first gin as well as their first departure from the OYO brand.
“We wanted to showcase our capabilities as a distillery by extending our work into a another category,” said co-founder & General Manager Brady Konya in a statement. “This meant we had a unique window of opportunity to test how a new independent product might stand on its own under the Middle West umbrella.”
As part of Middle West’s recent expansion, the company invested in a state-of-the-art gin still designed by the craftsmen at Louisville based Vendome Copper & Brass Works. The custom pot & column still was fashioned from copper and includes an integrated botanical basket that will be utilized to distill the 18 botanicals in the Vim & Petal dry gin.
“Part of what makes Vim & Petal so unique is that we distill the botanicals with a soft whiskey base,” said Ryan Lang, co-founder and Head Distiller in a statement. “The added character of the soft red winter wheat pairs incredibly well with the botanicals and produces a gin that is remarkably well balanced and uniquely Ohio.”
750mL bottles of Vim & Petal will retail for around $29.30 and will be available at the distillery’s Short North bottle shop beginning Friday, November 4 with special shop hours that day from noon-7pm.
Additional limited inventory will be available at select state liquor agencies in Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati the week of November 7.
