Happy Ron Burgundy Day! Er…I mean National Scotch Day.
July 27 has been deemed by whatever powers that be as National Scotch Day. Scotch, defined as malt or grain whiskey made in Scotland produced in a manner specified by law, is said to have been around since the 15th century.
Celebrating this genteel holiday may not be on everyone’s to-do list, as Scotch is often an acquired taste. For those who do plan to indulge in a dram (or more), Columbus has a few go-to spots for good Scotch.
Manifesto
Manifesto offers more than 60 varieties of Scotch. Happy hour at Manifesto includes food options, half off beers, $5 jumbo margaritas and wine and $4/$5 select scotches, which can be seen on their website. The cocktail menu also boasts a unique twist on the classic Rob Roy cocktail, The Fig Roy–comprised of muddled fig, bitters, sweet vermouth, brown sugar and Cutty Sark.
Wings Restaurant of Bexley
Another Columbus go-to for Scotch is Wings Restaurant. Its scotch list is one of the best in the city and most definitely the largest. Whether Chinese food and Scotch are a likely pair, I cannot say but it seems to be working for Kenny Yee. Check out the Scotch List as Wing’s to choose from over 150 varieties.
Tip Top Kitchen and Cocktails
For its size, Tip Top Kitchen keeps a great selection of whiskeys on hand–including Scotch. The cool ambiance inside and comfort-style food makes it an all around dining experience.
Prohibition Gastro Lounge
Prohibition Gastro Lounge in Powell is a great option for those who aren’t looking to head so close to downtown. Prohibition opened in the fall of 2014 and continually wows locals with its food, cocktails and, apparently, solid Scotch selection.
BONUS!
- We’ve heard that Bar 145 and Giuseppes in Bexley have Pappy Van Winkle but like to keep it a secret, kind of like that secret Starbucks menu no ones ever ordered from. Just don’t hold us accountable if they look at you like you’re crazy.
- Keep the celebration going – The Refectory is hosting a single malt scotch event on August 12 with a Glenfiddich ambassador. Enjoy a Monkey Shoulder cocktail and four varieties of Glenfiddich. Make reservations and find more information here.
